The IEEE Standards Workshop and Hackathon, held on September 18, 2024, at the Robotic and Process Automation Lab (PEP CENTRE) of St. Joseph’s College of Engineering, Chennai, was a significant event, with the college being selected from across the southern zone to host it. Organized by the IEEE Student Branch (SBC60101) in association with the IEEE India Council Industry Academia Young Professionals Committee and the Indian Internet Foundation (IIFON), the event explored the importance of standards in key technology sectors, such as Software & Systems Engineering, Network Governance & Management, Cybersecurity, and IoT. The inauguration featured notable speakers, including Mr. Shone Jose, Vice Chair of IEEE India Council for Young Professionals, and Mr. A. Sadeeshkumar, Assistant Professor at St. Joseph’s College of Engineering. The technical sessions were led by Mr. Anand Raje, Co-Founder and CTO of IIFON, and other experts like Ms. T R Ramya from CeWIT and Dr. Sudha Bhuvaneshwari, President of ISOC Chennai. With active participation from 31 external students representing various colleges, the event successfully emphasized fostering innovation through the application of global technology standards.
